THE MELBOURNE Football Club has officially reached 50,000 members for the first time in its history, smashing the club record on Monday morning.

The Demons surpassed last year’s benchmark of 45,178 members in March, making this the fourth consecutive year the club has registered a record tally.

Acknowledging the significant milestone, CEO Gary Pert thanked all those who have signed up to be part of the red and blue in 2019.

“Today is an important day in our history,” he told Melbourne Media.

“Our members are the heart of our club, and it’s fantastic that 50,000 have got behind the team in 2019.

“To our existing members, thank you for continuing to sign up and for sticking by us through thick and thin. To our new members, thank you for joining our journey.”

The Demons have converted over 9,000 supporters so far this year, with 1,000 junior members getting on board for the first time.

But the club is aiming higher, with time still left to be part of Melbourne’s record-breaking year.

“While this is a big moment for the club, we continue to push towards our target of 60,000 members,” Pert said.

“With some big home games ahead, including matches against Collingwood, Richmond, Sydney, GWS and Fremantle, we are encouraging all of our supporters to sign up and get on board.”

Along with supporting the Demons on the field, Pert said the members’ contribution reaches far and wide.

“As a member, your money allows us to continually invest in our football department, as well as our membership services,” he said.

“This past year, we have welcomed new staff into our membership team to assist in providing the best service possible, as our members are truly at our core.

“With your support, we can continue to invest, grow and develop our great club.”
