JIM’S GAME

“It’s obviously a significant game, celebrating the legacy of Jim Stynes and the Irish heritage of our football club,” King said.

“We’re going to try and make a bit of an event of it… we’d love as many Melbourne supporters and football people to come along.

“There’ll be a bit of fun around it, but it’s also about paying respect.”

CONSISTENCY FOCUS

“We sit here at 3-2, which is a really solid start, but within that we’ve been inconsistent,” King said.

“We’re still trying to discover what our best looks like and, as a coach, you want to see that for four quarters.

“I think we’ve only done that once so far, that’s the challenge for us.”

REVIEW TAKEAWAYS

“All phases were pretty poor, but our contest to start the game was off,” King said.

“Our urgency around the footy wasn’t at the level it needed to be, and when that happens, you’re chasing the game.

“It gives us a chance to have a deep dive and look at how we improve.”

BRISBANE TEST

“They’re a really strong side with talent across every line,” King said.

“We can’t just be a team that reacts to the opposition, we’ve got to understand what fuels our game.

“At the same time, you’ve got to respect what they bring and be ready for that challenge.”

RIVERS UPDATE

“He’s probably still a couple of weeks away with his knee,” King said.

“He’s just working through getting his body right and building back his explosive power.

“We’ll let him get that right, and bring him back in once he’s ready to play.”
