FOLLOWING Casey’s Round 6 clash against Sydney, VFL coach Rhett McLennan provided his reflections on the contributions of AFL-listed players.
Tom McDonald
(26 disposals, 7 marks, 10 intercepts)
“Tom was super. He was really strong down back and led a resolute defensive group.
“He fought hard all day and helped organise the back six, especially in the first half when the ball was coming in consistently.”
Andy Moniz-Wakefield
(24 disposals, 4 tackles)
“Andy used the ball relatively well and had some strong moments.
“His defensive positioning was good, although we’d like to see him maintain that more consistently throughout phases of play.”
Jed Adams
(18 disposals, 7 marks)
“Jed was excellent again and continues to build strong form.
“He competed strongly in the air and played a key role in our defensive efforts.”
Jake Bowey
(23 disposals, 2 tackles)
“Bowey’s first full game, athletically, he looked really good and helped us from a defensive structure point of view.
“He played a really solid game.”
Thomas Matthews
(3 goals, 4 tackles)
“That was Tommy’s best game of the year.
“He’s building nicely into form, kicked three, with one taken on the goal line so he probably should’ve had four, and is continuing to improve week by week.”
Riley Onley
(14 disposals, 7 intercepts)
“Riley probably didn’t have a matchup that was suited to him on the day, so we pushed him higher up the ground.
“He still had some solid moments and contributed defensively.”
Jack Henderson
(13 disposals, 1 goal, 3 marks)
“Jack was solid early before coming off and preparing as an AFL emergency.
“His stoppage craft and ability to move the ball forward were strong, and he was able to hit the scoreboard.”
Xavier Taylor
(11 disposals, 7 marks)
“Xavier’s intercept marking was a highlight again.
“He’s still learning with ball in hand, but it’s all part of his development and he’ll keep improving.”
Luker Kentfield
(2 goals, 8 disposals, 88% disposal efficiency)
“Luker’s second half was really strong.
“He presented well as a forward target and gave us a good avenue late in the game.”
Kalani White
(8 disposals, 11 hit outs)
“Kalani’s been improving each week in the ruck.
“He competed well against an experienced opponent and continues to build his contest work.”
Oscar Berry
(8 disposals, 1 goal)
“Oscar went forward and kicked his first goal, which was great to see.
“He showed some good signs forward of the ball and is continuing to learn his running patterns.”
Ricky Mentha Jnr
(1 disposal, injured early)
“It was unfortunate for Ricky, injuring his ankle early in the game.
“He’d been in really good form, so it’s disappointing, and he’ll likely miss the next couple of weeks.”
