Melbourne has raised over $130,000 for the Jim Stynes Foundation(JSF) through its second annual ‘Jim’s Game’, once again honouring the life and legacy of Jim Stynes in its Round 6 win against the Brisbane Lions.

The Foundation is dedicated to creating happy, healthy and resilient young people while inspiring them to be themselves.

All funds raised will go directly to the Jim Stynes Foundation charity partners including The Reach Foundation, Indigenous Eye Health Unit, Worawa College, AAAC and the JSF Community Leadership Award.

The club celebrated Irish culture throughout the day, with Gaelic football in Yarra Park, Irish food and beverages, and the popular Jim’s Jig following each goal. The jig had the entire stadium up and about after every Dees goal.

Jim Stynes Foundation also released the popular Jim’s Cap which sold out due to popular demand prior to the game. The Foundation has confirmed Jim’s Cap will return next year.

As part of the celebrations, Melbourne offered free tickets to fans who presented an Irish or British passport, with over 2,000 tickets distributed.

JSF Chair Russel Howcroft praised the success of the match and is looking forward to making this game a tradition every year.

“It was so special to see the whole MCG embrace the Irish community and honour the great Jim Stynes in true Irish fashion. How good was the jig?!,” Howcroft said.

“On behalf of the JSF Board, thank you to all who got behind the game and contributed to another incredible fundraising effort. Your support continues to make a meaningful difference through the foundation, and we look forward to growing Jim’s Game each year.”

In only it’s second year, Jim’s Game is quickly becoming a standout fixture on the AFL calendar.
