MELBOURNE will be without defender Daniel Turner for the next two to three weeks, after the Demon suffered a hand injury during Round 2.
The club’s AFL High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith said they were hopeful of a short stint on the sidelines for the 24-year-old.
“Daniel experienced hand pain during the second term on Saturday and was subsequently removed from the remainder of the game,” Griffith said.
“Scans then confirmed that he had fractured a bone in his hand.
“He is now recovering from surgery, and we’ll get a clearer timeframe on his return once the wound has healed, but we’re hopeful he’ll only miss a few weeks.”
In positive news for Aidan Johnson, the Demon is closing in on a return from a knee injury.
"Aidan has progressed really well this past week and is tolerating high-intensity training,” Griffith said.
“He’ll integrate into main training this week with the plan for him to be available next week.”
Matt Jefferson continues to progress through a bone stress injury in his foot.
“He’ll partially integrate into main training this week, with the plan to have him training fully next week,” Griffith said.
“His availability will then be determined by his tolerance to main training.”
Kalani White, who has returned to training following Glandular Fever, is building his loads and eyeing off a return to footy in the next month.
“Kalani continues to work hard from an intensity and reconditioning perspective,” Griffith said.
“While he has returned to main training, now our focus is about building his tolerance to that high-intensity training load and contact-based training.”
After injuring his knee during the team’s last practice match of the pre-season, Luker Kentfield will look to join full training in the coming week.
“Luker has progressed really well and will re-integrate into the main group this week with the goal for him to be available in the coming weeks," Griffith said.
Jake Bowey is ticking off important milestones in his rehab of a Lisfranc injury, returning to running last week.
“Jake has returned to straight line running which is an exciting progression for him,” Griffith said.
“Now we’ll build his tolerance to running loads and skills-based conditioning.”
Jack Viney (Achilles), Tom Campbell (neck) and Shane McAdam (Achilles) continue to work through their respective rehab programs.
