MUCH-LOVED Demon, Gabrielle Colvin, has retired from AFLW after 40 games in red and blue.
The defender was selected with pick No.77 in the 2019 AFLW Draft, hailing from the Darebin Falcons.
The netballer-turned-footballer from Wagga Wagga made her debut in Round 1 2020 against North Melbourne, appeared in every game in 2021 and played in the team’s losing Grand Final in 2022 against Adelaide.
Disappointingly, Colvin sustained an ACL injury that kept her on the sidelines for the remainder of 2022 and unavailable for selection for the club’s AFLW Premiership against Brisbane.
After successfully completing her rehab, she returned to play in Round 5 2023, to the joy of her teammates.
Standing tall at 175cm, her versatility in the backline and willingness to put her body on the line for her team was highly valued.
Although injury hampered her ability to impact on-field in 2025, playing in only six matches, Colvin’s humour and kindness have made her a fan-favourite amongst the Demon faithful.
Melbourne General Manager AFLW, Clare Pettyfor, spoke warmly of Colvin’s contribution to the Demons.
“We are so thankful for everything that Gab has brought to our program over the last five years,” Pettyfor said.
“Her humour, tenacity, and resilience have enriched our team, and she’ll be deeply missed.
“We wish Gab and her partner, Mitch, all the best in whatever comes next.”
