JACK Steele has a new home, with Melbourne welcoming the midfielder via a trade with St Kilda on Wednesday night.

The Dees secured the highly talented 29-year-old during the final hours of the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period in exchange for a future third-round selection (2027 AFL Draft).

He joins Melbourne following 11 seasons at the top level, including nine in the red, white and black, where he has captained for the past five campaigns.

AFL List Manager Tim Lamb said the club was thrilled to acquire Steele’s services.

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome a player of Jack’s character, calibre and experience to the Dees,” Lamb said.

“How Jack goes about his footy, both on and off the field, is incredibly impressive. He is a true competitor, who wants to get the best out of himself as well as those around him.

“We think Jack will be a fantastic addition to our midfield mix, bringing years of experience and strong leadership qualities, and we’re excited by the immediate impact he can have for us.”

Steele has tallied 202 games, including 17 matches with GWS – he started his career with the GIANTS as a rookie, before moving to Moorabbin ahead of the 2017 season.

His impressive list of accolades includes two club best and fairest awards, two All-Australian blazers and a third-place finish in the 2020 Brownlow Medal.

Steele, who had 21 appearances this past season, joins Brody Mihocek, Max Heath and Changkuoth Jiath in arriving at the Dees this AFL Trade Period.
