The Casey Demons have gone down by 12 points to the Box Hill Hawks in a gritty Saturday afternoon clash at Casey Fields.

After leading at every change, the Dees were overrun in the final quarter, with the Hawks piling on four unanswered goals to snatch a 7.6 (48) to 5.6 (36) win.

Charlotte Hammans and Anna Vrsecky both hit the scoreboard with two goals apiece, while Tylah Burn added one of her own in a forward line that made the most of its opportunities across the first three quarters.

Casey’s pressure around the contest was on show throughout the day, led by Sarah Lampard who collected 26 disposals and played a key role in driving the ball forward. Maeve Chaplin (21) was again composed in defence, while Lauren Pearce and Saraid Taylor each notched 17 touches and battled hard in the midfield. Sophie Casey and Molly O’Hehir also found plenty of the footy with 16 disposals apiece.

Despite the late surge from Box Hill, the Demons showed continued improvement and determination across four quarters, with their defensive structure and ball movement standing strong for most of the match.

The inclusion of AFLW-listed players brought valuable leadership and composure to Casey’s lineup, setting the tone with their professionalism and on-field direction. These players led by example, guiding the younger group through key moments and lifting the standard across the ground. Their experience was evident in contested situations and transitions, providing structure and support that allowed the VFLW-listed players to play with confidence and clarity.

The Dees will look to regroup and bounce back next week as they continue to chase their first win of the VFLW season.
