Zurich, Melbourne’s Co-Principal Partner, has once again joined with the Dees to support Neale Daniher in raising vital funds for FightMND.
Zurich has been a key partner in the fight against the ‘Beast’ that is motor neurone disease, having raised more than $170,000 over the past eight years.
For Big Freeze 11, Zurich’s contribution has come from the sale of $5 raffle tickets, which put Demon fans in the draw for a special edition Melbourne Football Club YETI Cooler, featuring images of star players Max Gawn and Christian Petracca.
The winner of the raffle was announced on Tuesday 4 June, with Melinda Maynard taking home the one-of-a-kind memorabilia.
For the sale of each raffle ticket, Zurich generously matched all proceeds raised up to $10,000, which brought their total donation to $26,595.
Linda Griffin, Head of Brand, Marketing and Corporate Affairs at Zurich Australia and New Zealand, expressed pride in Zurich’s continued support in the fight against MND.
“We’re honoured to once again be part of FightMND’s Big Freeze Campaign, now reaching a remarkable eleventh year,” Griffin said.
“A heartfelt thank you to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket — your generosity enabled us to match the funds raised and contribute $26,595 to this vital cause.
“Even though the Big Freeze has become a highlight of the AFL season for more than a decade, the journey to defeating MND continues. We remain inspired by Neale Daniher’s leadership and the tireless efforts of the FightMND team, and we’re humbled to contribute in the ongoing pursuit of a cure.”
Melbourne players and staff had the honour of a visit from Neale and Bec Daniher on Tuesday, as excitement ramps up for the important occasion. The Demon duo were on hand to present the Daniher family with the cheque, on behalf of Zurich.
Before the action kicks off on King’s Birthday, the Zurich Walk to the ‘G will set the stage with a powerful display of unity. Thousands of supporters in red and blue, proudly wearing FightMND beanies and waving flags, will march down Daniher’s Way in a show of solidarity.
At the ‘G, a new group of high-profile ‘sliders’ will take the icy plunge, continuing the much-loved tradition that shines a light on the fight against MND.
This year’s Big Freeze blockbuster takes place on Monday 9 June, with Melbourne going head-to-head against Collingwood in what promises to be another unforgettable clash.
Even if you can’t be there in person, you can still back the cause — grab your Big Freeze beanie online or at Coles and Bunnings stores nationwide.
