In Round 10 of the VFL season, the Casey Demons delivered a dominant performance at Tramway Oval, defeating the Sydney Swans by 94 points, 155–61. The impressive win marked one of their strongest showings of the season, showcasing the team’s growing momentum as the second half of the year approaches.

The match provided AFL-listed players with a valuable platform to showcase their progress and impact, with VFL Senior Coach Taylor Whitford carefully reviewing their performances to assess current form and identify areas for continued development.

Blake Howes

“Blake has been able to string some strong performances together with the VFL group. He's been able to put consistent games together off the back of that, he's finishing with a seven possession game behind the ball. It's his content and speed that sets up our game really well and his leadership is continuing to progress within the team which is pleasing to see."

Tom McDonald

“Having T-Mac back in our line up adds some real experience and professionalism. Our backs definitely play taller with T-Mac around them, he took the eight marks, frequent intercept and just a really consistent performer. Whenever his opportunity comes in the AFL team, he'll be ready to go."

Ollie Sestan

“We've been working really hard with Ollie around his percentage side of the game. He had some big contest wins behind the ball and played a slightly different role on the weekend, a little bit deeper in defence. We are liking the things that we see, within that there is obviously his trademark kicking behind the ball, and have been able to see some offensive chain which is pleasing to see."

Luker Kentfield

“It was probably Luker's best game within the VFL! He looked really comfortable behind the ball and took some nice marks, and had some nice big clearings and spoils. He had really good positioning and he's been able to string four VFL games together and he's starting to show some really good signs and growth back there, and we'll been looking for him continue this form in the next month or so."

Jack Billings

“Jack played as an inside mid for the first half and dominated around stoppages and clearances. He was able to get involved inside and also on the outside in transition. When he moved to the wing in the second half, his ability to get back and support the defenders also impacts in our offensive chain going forward was huge. He's been great over the last couple of weeks and we'll look to continue this form with him."

Will Verrall

"Will's ruck and clearance work is in a really great spot. His ability to give our mids first use and follow up on ground level is a real highlight, I think he had five clearances on the weekend. We'll continue to work with Will on how he can impact the game on the outside with his run and his ability to get back, and support the backs, but also be a threat up in the forward line."

Tom Campbell

"Another really strong performance from Tommy. He dominated the ruck battle and was able to give our mids first use, his follow up, hunt at ground level and tackling is in a really great spot. He got back and gave really good stability for our backs in deep 50 with some big clearance spoils."

Taj Woewodin

"Taj's stoppage and clearance game is in a really good spot, some of the best work I've seen him do in this area and he's becoming a real weapon in his game. We're continuing to work with Taj in and around his patterns, post clearances and inside mid. He's been playing wing a lot of the first half of the year, so it's just him transitioning to what an inside mid does around the ball and what he does around outside clearances, and how he can get involved in defence and offensive chains."

Kynan Brown

"Kynan played as a small forward for the first half. He had a real impact in our pressure game inside forward 50 and his ability to  get involved in turnovers by either creating them himself or getting involved in chains. In the second half he went as an inside mid and did a really good job both as a defensive mid but also getting involved in some clearances and stoppage work to get the ball from the inside to the outside."

Jai Culley

"Probably Jai's most impactful performance at VFL level. His role execution was really strong as a winger but his contest side of the game was what really stood out because of his ability to take some big contested marks which had impacts. Also on the ground winning contested ball and being able to pressure and tackle, he got forward and impacted on the scoreboard so we are really looking to continue this form with Jai over the coming weeks so it can put his hand up for AFL selection."

Jacob van Rooyen

"Really pleasing game from Jacob. Once again he's put two great performances together as his game is back in a really good balance, both in his ability to impact in the air by marking or bringing the ball to the front or follow up and get back in it at ground level. He took some really nice marks, I think he had eight on the day both up the ground and inside forward 50."

Koltyn Tholstrup

"Koltyn's role compliance on the weekend was a really strong once again. He got his rewards through his pressure acts inside 50 and up the ground, his tackles and smothers. His ability to be really calm and decisive with the ball impacted the scoreboard again which he's been able to do this consistently now which is great to see."

Matthew Jefferson

"Pretty awesome game from Jeffo on all aspects. He launched to the ball in packs, he looked to follow up on the ground with some real intent. He had some really good patterns forward of the ball and finished his work on goal."

Ricky Mentha

"Probably Ricky's most consistent VFL performance to date. He was matched up on on a really good opponent too. He had Harry Cunningham for the first three quarters of the game which he'll learn a lot around work rate and positioning from a really experienced defender. He was able to get involved both in offence and defence through his positioning. Pleasing for Ricky who was able to hit the scoreboard as a speed forward, he had four shots on goal and six score involvements. Most pleasing thing for us was his pressure and his chase inside forward 50 to create scoring opportunities for the team."

Tom Fullarton

"His game is in a really consistent spot, his patterning and contest ahead of the ball is going really well. He would've liked to have taken a few more of his opportunities on the weekend in front of goal and with his marks but off the back of what we've been seeing for the first half of the year, this won't be too far away."
