MELBOURNE’S Jack Viney has undergone surgery on a fracture to his hand.

The club’s AFL High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith provided an update on the midfielder on Tuesday.

“Jack was completing a training session in Alice Springs as part of his return from concussion,” Griffith told Melbourne Media.

“During that session, he slipped over and unfortunately, follow-up imaging showed that he had sustained a fracture to one of the bones in his hand.

“After consulting with a specialist, Jack has undergone surgery and is currently recovering.

“The plan is to assess his availability once the wound is cleared, and we’ve followed up with the surgeon.”

In some positive news for Marty Hore, the defender is available for selection this week after recovering from a calf injury that had sidelined him for a number of weeks.

“Marty is progressing back into full training and the plan will be for him to return this weekend if all goes well during the week,” Griffith said.

Charlie Spargo has started to tick off positive markers in his rehabilitation from a fracture to his scapula that was sustained during Round 11.

“Charlie has returned to running and some skill work but still hasn’t been cleared for contact,” Griffith said.

“He is progressing really well though and we’ll continue to assess his progress daily.”

Shane McAdam (Achilles) and Andy Moniz-Wakefield (knee) are both continuing to complete their respective rehab programs.
