The Casey Demons fell to the Darebin Falcons by 44 points in Round 6, with the Dees unable to match Darebin’s pressure and consistency across four quarters at Genis Steel Oval.

From the opening bounce, Darebin controlled the contest, dominating territory and capitalising on forward entries to build scoreboard pressure. The Demons struggled to generate momentum and found it difficult to lock the ball inside their forward 50, with Darebin’s midfield and defensive structures proving hard to break.

Casey were held goalless in the opening quarter while Darebin opened up a 16-point break. Darebin continued to apply scoreboard pressure in the second quarter, adding another two goals as they took a 29-point lead into the main break. Despite Casey’s best efforts, the Falcons’ clean ball movement and superior positioning around stoppages allowed them to dictate play.

The third quarter followed a similar pattern, with Darebin piling on the pressure and extending their lead, while Casey’s scoring opportunities remained limited. It wasn’t until the final quarter that the Demons found some reward, with a goal from Ella Morris to try and close the margin slightly.

In a tough afternoon for the Demons, Mackenzie Williams led the disposals count with 16, while Morris and Kasey Phillips each collected 15. Sophie Casey, Tylah Burn and Zoe Mitchell also worked hard, finishing with 13 touches apiece.

The 8.10 (58) to 2.2 (14) loss serves as a learning opportunity for Casey, who will look to bounce back next round with improved forward-half connection and greater midfield pressure.
