BIG FREEZE 11 is officially around the corner, with the launch of this year’s blue beanie.
The design was unveiled at Flinders St Station on Tuesday, with Melbourne, Collingwood, the Melbourne Vixens and the Melbourne Mavericks joining FightMND for the special occasion.
It kicks off another exciting campaign, where the football community comes together in support of Neale Daniher AO, and all Australians battling the debilitating disease.
This year marks the 11th edition of the Big Freeze, held on King’s Birthday at the MCG.
Melbourne President Brad Green spoke of the match’s significance, and the pride the Demons have in being involved.
“Big Freeze 11 will again be a moment where the community comes together for a game that means so much more than just football, to support Neale and raise vital funds to fight ‘the Beast’ that is MND,” Green said.
“Our players, coaches and staff feel incredibly honoured to be part of the Big Freeze match, as do the Melbourne faithful. I encourage everyone to get along to the ‘G on King’s Birthday, and wear their Big Freeze 11 beanie with pride.”
Big Freeze 11 is set to be made all the more special, thanks to a remarkable achievement by Daniher, who was crowned Australian of the Year in January – he was recognised for his tireless work and advocacy to find a cure to MND.
Green, who shares a unique connection to Daniher, highlighted just how much he means to the community.
“Neale is a much-loved figure in the Melbourne Football Club community, and a true inspiration. In the face of adversity, his determination and fight continues to inspire our club, our game, and the broader Australian public,” Green said.
“Neale was my coach and mentor, and someone who shaped not only my career but also the person I am today. To see the impact he has made through the Big Freeze initiative, including being named Australian of the Year, makes me so proud.”
Melbourne will host Collingwood for this year’s clash on June 9, with ‘sliders’ to once again hit the ice prior to the game.
Those braving the cool conditions will be announced in the lead-up.
Big Freeze 11 beanies are now available at Coles, Bunnings, select Shell Reddy Express stores and online at fightmnd.org.au.
