MELBOURNE will be boosted by the addition of Ryleigh Wotherspoon, who has renewed her contract with the AFLW team until at least the end of 2026.

The Queenslander arrived at Melbourne as pick 12 in the 2023 AFLW Draft, having been highly regarded as a top-quality talent.

Todd Patterson, AFLW List Manager, was enthusiastic in his praise of Wotherspoon.

“Ryleigh has demonstrated to us her desire and willingness to improve and grow, and we can’t wait to see how she will progress while at the club,” Patterson said.

“She has shown the impact that she can have forward of centre and around the ball whilst still adjusting to the higher level.

“With another pre-season, we are excited for what lies ahead for her.”

Wotherspoon expressed her excitement at remaining in the red and blue for another season.

“It was quite easy…straight away I was happy to sign on. The faith that they’ve shown in me is awesome and I can’t wait to repay that back,” Wotherspoon said.

“The girls and the support and staff around us [made the decision easy]. The club is heading in a really great direction, and I love who I play with. Rocking up to work each day doesn’t feel like work.”

Wotherspoon played in ten games in her first season, kicking one goal and averaging 7.4 disposals and 3.4 tackles each match.

The great news follows the announcement that fellow young gun, Alyssia Pisano, has also signed with the Demons until at least 2027.
