RETURN TO IKON
In Narrm’s final home game of the fixtured season, fans will be guaranteed a fun day out at the footy, with Saturday set to be a sunny afternoon perfect for supporters of all ages.
The Dees will host the Pies at IKON Park for the Week 10 game and the last of the AFLW Indigenous Round, meaning there'll be lots of ways to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, an important opportunity for all footy fans.
Supporters are encouraged to be in their seats by 12:40pm, with students from Worawa Aboriginal College performing a traditional dance prior to Narrm running out at 12:55pm.
A Welcome to Country from Wurundjeri man Colin Hunter Jnr Jnr will then take place before the first bounce at 1:05pm.
With IKON Park home to a double-header on Saturday, fans can also stick around for a pre-game Indigenous Market hosted by Carlton Football Club prior to their match against Essendon at 7:15pm. The result of this match will play a big role in Narrm's finals chances, so Dees fans will no doubt be keeping a close eye on this game.
LAST TIME WE MET
Round 1, 2023 | Melbourne v Collingwood @ IKON Park
It was the opening match of the 2023 season when Collingwood and Melbourne last faced each other. With the Dees reigning premiers at the time, they had all the pressure to back up their premiership season with a win in front of a home crowd of over 8,000 fans.
The game opened fairly evenly, with both sides hitting the scoreboard in the first term, but it was Collingwood’s second quarter that saw the game sway the Pies way, the black and white leading by nine points at the main break.
It wasn’t long before the Dees kicked into gear, a five-goal third term seeing them switch the momentum completely. Alyssa Bannan was important with three goals, while Tyla Hanks was exceptional in her work at the contest.
Another three goals went Melbourne’s way in the last term, with Collingwood unable to register a goal after halftime. This second-half onslaught saw Melbourne hold on to the lead for the remainder of the game, a Round 1 win confirmed at 10.13 (73) to 4.7 (31).
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Georgia Gall | Narrm
Gall has been building her game for almost three seasons now, first arrivinig at the Dees at the midway point of 2022 via the NAB AFLW Draft.
Having come across to football with an elite cricket background, the young Demon bided her time in the VFLW and match scrimmages working on her forward craft. Now, with 10 senior games under her belt, the tall forward is hitting her stride - contested marking becoming a clear standout in her game.
Over the past eight games, Gall has kicked five goals and doesn’t look to be slowing down. If she can keep improving with each week, Saturday’s game will sure to be a positive outing for the young star.
Mikala Cann | Collingwood
Cann has been a consistent contributor to the Pies outfit for some time now, the tenacious midfielder known for her ability to win the ball and break out of stoppage.
Cann is coming off a solid display against Carlton last week, kicking a goal amongst her 21 disposals and showing composure in what was a down-to-the-wire game.
Despite Collingwood having not seen much success in 2024, with just the one win on the board, Cann, as a new leader of the Pies cohort in 2024, will be looking to inspire her side to finish their season on a high.
