TOM Fullarton, one of the Demons’ newest recruits, has had a setback to the beginning of his season.

The 200cm ruck suffered an unfortunate accident in match simulation last Friday, and underwent scans to determine the extent of the injury.

Alan Richardson, GM of AFL Football Performance, provided an update on the 24-year-old.

“Tom unfortunately sustained an injury to his left hamstring during Friday’s training session,” Richardson told Melbourne Media.

“Scans have shown a moderate-high grade injury to the muscle, with involvement of the tendon.”

Richardson confirmed that this would mean an extended recovery period before he would be ready to re-join the main training group.

“The good news is Tom won’t require surgery,” Richardson said.

“He will have to work through a thorough rehab program, which, at this stage, will see him return to full fitness in six to eight weeks.”

Fullarton joined Melbourne in the 2023 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period, with 19 games and six goals to his name.
