MELBOURNE captain James McDonald is set to finish up with the club, following the 2010 season.

McDonald, who is set to play his 250th AFL match against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Sunday, will play his last match for the Demons against North Melbourne in round 22.

This weekend, he is set to become the seventh Melbourne player to reach the 250-game milestone.

The 33-year-old has been an outstanding player for the club, winning two Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Memorial Trophies in 2006/07.

He was also All-Australian and represented Australia in 2006.

In 2008, he stepped up with Cameron Bruce as Melbourne co-captain, following the mid-season retirement of David Neitz. In 2009, McDonald was appointed sole skipper and has since flourished in the role.

Originally a rookie list player in 1997, McDonald made his debut later that season in round 20.

He became the third McDonald brother to play in the AFL, following Alex (Hawthorn and Collingwood) and Anthony (Melbourne).

McDonald also finished runner-up in the best and fairest award in 2003.

He also holds the record for the most matches by a former rookie list player.
