DREAMS will become a reality on Saturday night, with Demon Taj Woewodin set to pull on the red and blue guernsey and make his AFL debut.

The 20-year-old, who has impressed on the training track and at VFL level in recent months, was informed of the special news on Wednesday in front of teammates and coaches.

It was a full circle moment of sorts, with Melbourne assistant coach Adem Yze, who played alongside Woewodin’s father Shane in the late 1990s and early 2000s, making the announcement.

The opportunity comes after a 31-disposal, three-goal display for the Casey Demons last weekend, building on consistent form – Woewodin has averaged 22 touches across nine matches so far this season – and several matches as an emergency for the AFL team.

The tenacious midfielder became a Demon during the 2021 AFL Draft, joining the club his dad played 138 of his 200 senior games between 1997 and 2002 for.

Woewodin featured as part of Casey’s drought-breaking VFL premiership in 2022 and will bring plenty of grit, as well as versatility, to the Dees’ mix this weekend.

Melbourne will name the rest of its team to take on St Kilda on Thursday evening.
