RUCKMAN Max Gawn has won this year’s Troy Broadbridge Memorial Trophy – for the best Melbourne-listed player at Casey – marking the 10-year anniversary of the former Demon’s tragic passing.

Broadbridge sadly died on Boxing Day 2004 in the tsunami that followed the Indian Ocean earthquake.

He and wife Trish were in Thailand on their honeymoon.

Gawn played nine matches for Melbourne this season, but also dominated when he played for Casey.

He form in the VFL, before he was recalled to the AFL for the final four matches of the season, was scintillating.

Gawn received the award with Broadbridge’s parents Pam and Wayne Broadbridge and his surviving wife Trish Silvers in attendance.

A moving tribute to Broadbridge was shown on the big screen during Melbourne’s best and fairest award.

Broadbridge, a tall defender whose last match was a fine performance on Essendon great James Hird in a final, played 40 matches for Melbourne from 2001-02 and 2004.
