THE TRADE Period provided Melbourne an opportunity to achieve two objectives: bolster its list with experienced players and strengthen its draft hand.

And according to List Manager Tim Lamb, the Demons were successful on both fronts.

“It’s a big couple of weeks but it’s the culmination of a lot of work,” Lamb told Melbourne Media.

“We went in with a certain plan and we were able to execute that, so we’re really happy.”

Across the club’s eight completed trades, it shuffled a number of picks to improve its draft hand.

The Dees landed picks 13 and 37 in this year’s draft, as well as future first and second round selections, tied to the Dockers.

“We were able to secure a really strong draft hand over this year and next year with the selections that we got from Freo for Luke (Jackson),” Lamb said.

“So now we can really hit the draft hard in the next two years which is exciting for us.”

Last year, Melbourne opted to trade its 2022 first round pick to help secure Jacob van Rooyen, but last week’s exchange with Fremantle has helped it get access to some top-end talent once again.

And in the next few weeks, the club’s recruiting team will be working hard to ensure they don’t waste the opportunity at hand.

“There’s a lot of vision now – really nailing what those selections look like,” Lamb said.

“The guys will get to work – we’ll have our medical review, … we have our psych review coming up, and then bringing all that information together.

“We’ve got six weeks until the draft, so we have a lot of time to work on that.”
