THE MELBOURNE Football Club extends its deepest sympathies to the family of dual premiership player Keith Carroll, following his passing at the age of 91.

A member of the 1956 and 1957 premiership sides, Carroll played 58 matches in the red and blue and was highly regarded among the Demon faithful.

Originally from Romsey, he made his senior debut in Round 19, 1952, before a breakout year in 1956 – he played every match and was later inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame alongside his teammates.

Carroll, who wore the No.19 and played off half-back, added a second premiership the following year, despite missing a substantial portion of the season with injury.

Further injury forced his retirement in 1958, at the age of 27, marking the end of a seven-year career.

He was named a ‘Hero’ of the Melbourne Football Club in 2008 and was delighted to greet a new premiership cup in his final year.

The club extends its condolences to wife Edna, son Rob and the extended Carroll family at this sad time.
