WITH EACH loss, comes a new spark of energy, to learn and improve the following week.

Melbourne’s Round 4 loss to Brisbane created exactly this, with the Demons producing an impressive 42-point win over Carlton on Friday night.

AFLW senior coach Mick Stinear reviewed the win post-match, explaining the team’s desire to return to the winner’s list in Round 5.

“I think we started the season well against Adelaide and we just feel like we’ve been inconsistent since then,” Stinear said.

“We’ve had some good periods and won some games, but certainly Brisbane showed us we’ve got to work harder, and that we had a few flaws in our game.

“We lacked a bit of method and purpose against Brisbane.

“We’re grateful for that game – we certainly didn’t’ want to lose – but we felt like we learned a lot from that game, and it gave us an edge coming into this week’s match."

During their win over the Blues, the Demons created 15 scoring opportunities, more than doubling their efforts in Round 4, registering just the seven against Brisbane.

With this a core focus during training, Stinear was happy with the improvement upon last weekend's connection inside 50.

"We got a lot of supply into our forward half," Stinear said.

"We want to be a lot stronger and more direct and give our forwards an opportunity and we felt like we did that.

"There were probably little moments we felt we could’ve done better but I feel like that’s going to be every game of footy.

"We walk away from tonight really pleased that we put four quarters together and ground out a good win."
