MELBOURNE'S Tom McDonald is eyeing a long-awaited return to football in this weekend's VFL Qualifying Final.

Club Doctor Laura Lallenec said the tall forward, who has been sidelined for nearly three months with a foot injury, would look to be available for Casey selection.

"He's done really well in his rehab, he'll full train on Thursday with the group and then will look to play in that first round [VFL] final if he gets through," Lallenec said.

Luke Jackson and Christian Salem both missed game time during Round 23, but are both hopeful to make a full return ahead of Melbourne's Qualifying Final on Friday 2 September.

"Jackson developed some tightness in his calf, so as a precaution we felt it would be wise to bring him off, but he's pulled up well," Lallenec said.

"He's completed some modified training today and will look to integrate into main training on Thursday to [be ready to] play next week.

"Unfortunately, Salem did sustain a groin strain last week and was ruled out of the game.

"He is recovering well and had done some rehab training this week and will look to fully train next week to hopefully play."
