MELBOURNE has added five players to its squad for Sunday’s clash against Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Stadium.

The Demons have included Sam Blease, Jack Viney, Dean Kent, Michael Evans and Dom Barry, who is a chance to play his first AFL match, in their 25-man squad.

Midfielders Viv Michie and Jimmy Toumpas have been omitted, after the duo played in Melbourne’s opening two matches of the season.

Hard-nut Viney has been named in the starting 22 and will play his first match of the season, after his pre-season was interrupted during the NAB Challenge/practice match series.

Pacy trio Blease, Kent and Evans, who were emergencies in round two, when the West Coast Eagles smashed the Demons by 93 points at the MCG, have been named on the seven-man bench. Blease and Evans were also emergencies in round one, when the Dees narrowly went down to the Saints by 17 points at Etihad Stadium.

Northern Territorian Dom Barry is a chance to make his AFL debut after being named in the provisional line-up.

Barry, who is now in his second season with the Demons, spent 2013 developing with Casey in the VFL. But he also gained some good experience, representing Australia against Ireland, as part of the Indigenous team, which played in last year’s International Rules series.

At this stage, small forward Jay Kennedy-Harris, Shannon Byrnes and Jack Trengove have also been named on the extended bench.

The Demons will be aiming for their first win of the season against the Giants.

The match starts at 1.10pm.
