MELBOURNE’S Ben Brown has been ruled out of the side’s Round 19 match against the Western Bulldogs.

The club's GM of AFL Performance Alan Richardson confirmed the news on Friday, following a week of modified training for the tall forward.

"Ben has had some knee soreness this week and he unfortunately didn't quite get through this morning's training session," Richardson said.

"We will monitor him over the next couple of days and adjust his training load accordingly, with the hope of having him available for selection next week."

Sam Weideman will replace Brown in the starting 22, while Jayden Hunt will join Toby Bedford, Adam Tomlinson and Luke Dunstan as the Demons' emergencies.

Melbourne will face the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night, with the first bounce scheduled for 7.25pm (AEST).
