SIMON Goodwin has cleared up any concern around Christian Petracca in the lead up to Round 7, after the 23-year-old was involved in a swimming incident on Tuesday.

Petracca passed out while doing a session in the pool at AAMI Park during the week, but Goodwin said it wasn’t a threatening situation at all.

“I saw him about 15 minutes later, but it wasn’t at MSAC, it was at the club,” Goodwin said on Triple M prior to Melbourne’s clash with Hawthorn.

“He came down and said that he had passed out – he was pretty buoyant about the whole thing.

“At the same time, it’s a hypoxic training session and they are the risks when you do hypoxic swimming.

“It was well supervised by our high-performance team and Christian tells a good story about it.”

While there was some external concern about Petracca’s mishap, Goodwin laughed it off.

“He actually loves the hypoxia; he’s been doing it for a while and he gets quite competitive in that space,” Goodwin said.

“So I think he just has to pull the competitiveness back a little bit.”
