Melbourne to host Pink Lady Match in Round 15
MELBOURNE will shine a light on breast cancer over the coming week, with the annual Pink Lady Match to be played in Round 15.
The Demons will bring a touch of pink to their clash with Brisbane on Thursday night, as the club continues its long-standing partnership with Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).
It will be another opportunity to recognise Australians diagnosed with the devastating disease, as well as their support networks.
To mark the occasion, Melbourne will proudly wear pink socks and run out to a Guard of Honour full of breast cancer survivors and families of loved ones lost to the disease.
And in a further show of support, umpires will wear pink wrist bands and incorporate pink flags into proceedings.
This year will also see the return of a ‘Mini-Field of Women’. Stationed outside Gate 2, attendees will have the opportunity to write a special tribute, in honour of someone who has been impacted, for the first time since 2019.
In 2022, BCNA and Melbourne are again inviting everyone to help fill the Virtual Pink Lady on the ‘G.
Following the success of last year’s campaign, supporters can buy a virtual place for $25, getting behind the special cause.
2022 Pink Lady Match Ambassador | Nicole's story of resilience
For Melbourne, this year’s Pink Lady Match ambassador is life-long Demon fan and mother of three, Nicole Armstrong.
Nicole was diagnosed in August 2021 despite already being dealt her share of challenges, suffering a minor stroke at the age of 40 and having to undergo a heart transplant seven years later.
Her story is one of resilience, also navigating her most recent struggle during a COVID-impacted year.
Nicole will represent all Australians affected by breast cancer when she delivers the match ball to the umpires ahead of Thursday night’s blockbuster clash.
BCNA's Field of Women
Keeping the long-lasting tradition alive, the Breast Cancer Network Australia's Field of Women will return.
The well-loved station can be found outside Gate 1, where supporters will have the opportunity to write a special tribute, in honour of someone who has been impacted, for the first time since 2019.
