ADEM Yze is set to coach his first AFL game this weekend, replacing Simon Goodwin who has tested positive to COVID-19.

The adjustment will be made for Melbourne’s Saturday afternoon clash with the Hawks, allowing the Demons’ midfield coach to take the reins against his former club.

Yze joined Melbourne as an assistant coach for the 2021 season after six years of experience under Alastair Clarkson at Hawthorn.

The former Demon, who played 271 senior games between 1995 and 2008, is ready to take on the challenge, but says replacing Goodwin will be a team effort.

"It won't be just myself - obviously everyone's got to step up," Yze said.

"Our senior coach is out of the program so we'll have different staff members doing different roles to help fill that void.

"I'll just be the face of it this week, but I feel comfortable in doing it, though."
