IN 2021, Melbourne dropped just four games of footy; one of those was a home match against the Giants.

Adem Yze, the club’s midfield coach, is looking to learn from that outing and ensure it doesn’t happen again.

“They brought their best footy and we struggled with it,” Yze told Melbourne Media.

“We’re not going to be complacent.

“We know where they sit on the ladder but we’re going to go out and just try to play our game and try to get our game back to where we know it should be.”

GWS has won just one game in the early part of the season, coming off a 34-point loss to the Dockers last Saturday night.

But having made a Semi-Final last year, there’s no doubting the calibre of its side.

“Their best is very good, so that’s what we’re planning for,” Yze said.

“They had a really strong game against Gold Coast a couple of weeks ago.

“It’s obviously really tough to go and play in Perth any week, so we’re planning on them bringing their contest game.

“They’ve got a lot of talent on their list … and it’s going to be a tough fight.”

When the Demons hit the MCG this weekend, they will have had a nine-day break since their grinding 32-point victory over Port Adelaide.

And while the coaching staff were thrilled with that result – the club’s fourth win from as many starts – there’s still room for improvement heading into Round 5.

“We were pretty proud of our effort,” Yze said.

“Our team defence has been holding up all year, so we were really happy with the way we held them goalless for the first half.

“So now we’re just looking to obviously improve on our offence and hopefully hit the scoreboard a little bit more this week.”
