TYLA Hanks and Shelley Heath have been named in the AFL Players Association’s AFLW 22Under22 team for 2022.

The AFLPA team is a fan-chosen side, with the public given the opportunity to vote from a 40-player squad consisting of the top individuals in the competition aged 22 or under.

This is the second year in a row that Hanks has featured in the line-up, a testament to her consistency within the league over the previous two seasons.

The star midfielder has managed to improve upon her breakout year in 2021, where she was the joint recipient of Melbourne’s Best and Fairest Award, on top of the NAB AFLW Rising Star Award.

At the end of the home-and-away season, Hanks averaged 18.4 disposals, 5.4 tackles and 3.3 score involvements, just a small insight into the major impact she has across the ground for the Demons.

A tenacious midfielder who is clean through the contest and in her fundamentals, Hanks is a natural standout among the league.

In her fourth season with the club, Heath's recognition is a first from the AFLPA, having truly hit her stride in 2022.

The tough and relentless young defender, who comes from a background in taekwondo, has flown under the radar in her role, despite averaging 4.6 intercept possessions and 4.3 tackles per game.

Heath has developed into the unsuspecting threat the Demons needed in their backline, shutting down key players within the opposition.
