FIVE games into her AFLW career, Melbourne’s Megan Fitzsimon has received a nomination for the 2022 NAB AFLW Rising Star Award.

The nomination comes after Fitzsimon’s 11-disposal game in Round 3, where she pulled off an individual achievement of kicking her first AFLW goal.

In the final term, the Demon managed to dodge through St Kilda traffic and snap her first major, putting a cherry on top of Melbourne’s 41-point win.

While it was Fitzsimon’s display in the forward line and midfield that earned her the Rising Star recognition, it is her versatility and willingness to accept the roles given to her, that has been the most-praised aspect of her game internally.

Seen slotting into positions across the ground, including along the wing and in the back line during Round 2, Fitzsimon is frequently acknowledged by teammates and coaching staff for her can-do attitude.

The 19-year-old joined the Demons at the end of 2020 when she was drafted from the Gippsland Power with pick No.35.

During her debut season in 2021, Fitzsimon took to the field on two occasions and hit her stride during the 2022 pre-season.

Having improved both her fitness and skills, she has now featured in all three games of the 2022 season so far.

Fitzsimon’s nomination is Melbourne’s second of the year, following teammate Alyssa Bannan’s recognition in the side’s Round 2 win over Richmond.
