Joel Smith is an exciting prospect for the Demons who hasn’t had a clear run at his AFL career just yet.
His 2019 campaign was derailed by a groin injury which he suffered against Brisbane during the JLT Series, but he has since re-joined the main group in pre-season training.
Smith began his career as a key defender but has since started training as a forward, looking to use his speed and agility at the other end of the field.
He is a big x-factor for the Dees with a massive leap, and despite playing just 11 games in his first four seasons, he received a surprise call-up for the 2018 Preliminary Final.
With a basketball background, Smith joined the club as a Category B rookie in 2015, while his father Shaun played for the club from 1995 to 1998.
