The premiership defender tried life as a forward in 2024, taking a leave of absence from the back six to try his luck with a full season in front of the sticks. The 197cm marking target added some more highlight performances alongside 2023’s six-goal haul against the Tigers, producing a three Brownlow vote effort against Geelong. Petty struggled for consistency in his new role however and looks set to start 2025 back in defence.
