It was a heartbreaking finish when the Demons last faced the Crows just twelve weeks ago.

Melbourne led by three points at the final break, but Adelaide was too strong in the dying minutes of the game, kicking the last three goals and snapping up a one-point win.

Since the Round 10 loss back in May, the Demons have gone on to win six of their following ten matches, pushing them to the top of the ladder.

Whereas the Crows currently sit 17th, having won just two games, putting them in a tough position ahead of this weekend’s match against the top side.

A challenge for the Demons on Sunday will be shutting down Adelaide midfielder Rory Laird, who is one of the top performers across the league this season.

Laird is currently averaging 31.8 disposals and sits in the top five for total disposals, contested possessions and centre clearances.

A match-up that is sure to be an interesting one to watch is that of Laird and Melbourne midfielder Clayton Oliver, who is also sitting in the top five for disposals, contested possessions and clearances.

Last time these sides met, Oliver was a force across the ground with 38 disposals (27 of which were contested), 13 clearances, nine tackles and three goals.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, coach Simon Goodwin said that he knew Adelaide would challenge them in certain areas.

“The Crows came in with a really strong plan against us last time, and they executed it to a really high level,” Goodwin said.

"We're going to have to have our game in good shape, to get the results."

Melbourne will be honouring club legend, Jim Stynes in the Round 22 game, celebrating the Round for Reach.

Stynes’ legacy lives on through The Reach Foundation, a not-for-profit that he co-founded to help inspire young Australians to believe in themselves.

You can get involved in the Round for Reach by donating $11 (Jim’s jumper number) to The Reach Foundation here.

The Sunday game will take place at the MCG, with the first bounce scheduled for 2:10pm (AEST).
