MELBOURNE continues to face selection headaches, but for all the right reasons.

After a 12-2 start to the season, the Demons can’t find room in their starting line-up for key forwards Ben Brown and Sam Weideman, who have both proven their capabilities at the top level.

But forward line coach Greg Stafford doesn’t consider that to be a problem.

“It’s a really fortunate position we find ourselves in,” he said on The Talking Points.

“I’m very much a glass half full.”

The Dees’ dilemma of sorts comes on the back of a rise in form from Tom McDonald and Luke Jackson in 2021.

Now, after Brown (five goals) and Weideman (21 disposals) both starred in the VFL on Sunday, the competition for spots remains well and truly alive.

“As far as what combination best suits us at the moment, we’re still trying to find that out,” Stafford said.

“Which again, is pretty exciting when you consider what we’ve been able to achieve so far and still not know what the best make up is.

“I’m looking forward to finding the best make up.”

While the Dees will be hoping to settle on that mix sooner rather than later, their ability to continuously find ways to win is pleasing the coaching staff.

“We’re not a finished product by any stretch,” Stafford said.

“In some respects, I don’t think I’d like to be right now, in this part of the season.

“There’s a lot of growth in the group which is actually very exciting when you think about it.”
