MELBOURNE is pleased to announce that Akambo Financial Group has extended its partnership with the club, becoming the ball sponsor for the 2021 AFL season.

The financial advice and wealth management business first joined the Demons in 2014 and, as part of the new agreement, will now feature on the match ball at Melbourne’s home games.

The partnership will continue to highlight Akambo’s highly successful integrated services, with the experienced team offering market-leading financial advice and investment management for private clients, along with lending and legal services and licensing solutions for professional practices to the Melbourne faithful.

Akambo will also look to provide more opportunities for players, coaches and staff, having previously opened its doors for work experience.

Melbourne forward Tom McDonald, who has an interest in finance, undertook a four-day placement at Akambo’s head office, learning more about the industry and its workings.

“I had the opportunity to spend a bit of time in various areas of the business, such as investments, analysing market trends, client portfolio management, superannuation and learning the strategic direction of the business, just to name a few,” McDonald told Melbourne Media.

“It was great to get an insight into the day-to-day life of working in the financial sector and seeing the different ways Akambo provide services for their clients.”

McDonald spent time with Akambo Managing Director Anthony Kapetanovic across the mini assignment, extending his insight and interest.

“‘Kappa’ (Kapetanovic) was awesome, and so welcoming to me,” McDonald said.

“He was very open and willing to answer any questions I had. He took me into as many meetings as possible and gave me opportunities to sit down with staff in any sector I was interested in”.

“I really appreciate what he did to make me feel comfortable when I was there.”

Reflecting on their time together, Kapetanovic said it was not only rewarding to welcome McDonald into the workplace, but exciting to see how the partnership between Akambo and the Demons can develop further in the future.

“We have a successful history of attracting high performers to our business, and Tom’s sporting achievements and commitment to hard work are perfect examples of someone who gives their all to their work, on and off the field,” he said.

“We are really delighted to be able to continue our partnership with Melbourne Football Club, and to have our logo feature on the match day ball is something we are really proud of.”

And for McDonald, while finding his feet outside of football is important, it is not something he’s too focused on just yet.

“I could see myself potentially working in the financial area, but I haven’t decided what route I would like to go with post-football yet,” he said.

“I am looking to gain more experience in different industries before deciding where I would like to work.

“Now, my focus is on AFL and I’m loving every moment of it.”
