MELBOURNE'S best start to a season in 16 years is only getting better with key forwards Ben Brown and Sam Weideman over their injury troubles.

The pair will return via the VFL this weekend as they push for a senior recall in coming weeks.

Brown, who arrived from North Melbourne during the off-season, is yet to play for his new club after having knee surgery in February, while Weideman suffered stress fractures in his leg during the pre-season.

"They've both done an extraordinary job in their rehab to get themselves in the condition they're in," Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin said.

"They'll probably both play three quarters. The good thing is we'll play them together and start to build some chemistry between the two.

"Whether that's one, two, three weeks, we're not sure (when they will be in the AFL), but we'll be guided by (Darren Burgess) and his fitness team.

"But they're going to have to fight their way in."

After their forward line struggled to fire during the last two seasons, the Demons are suddenly blessed with goalkicking options.

Tom McDonald is back to near his career-best 2018 form, while dynamite forward Kysaiah Pickett has been proving a handful for opposition backlines.

Versatile ruck-forward Luke Jackson has also been a handy presence inside 50.

Goodwin agreed trying to fit Brown and Weideman into the team was a nice problem to have.

He even floated the possibility of McDonald playing on a wing to accommodate the pair.

"If we get to that situation where they're all (in form) then we'll find a way as a team to get as many of them in as possible," he said.

"If it's we want to play two talls, then it will be the best two talls that are playing the best footy at that time."

The Demons will be looking to go 4-0 when they host last year's grand finalist Geelong at the MCG on Sunday.
