ONE THING we’ve learnt over the past 12 months is nothing is ever certain.

The 2021 AFLW fixture is a good example of that.

Just one week out from Round 1, Melbourne’s opening game of the season has been changed, with the Demons now set to fly to Gold Coast to get their campaign underway.

Initially, the club was scheduled to face the Crows at Casey Fields next Saturday afternoon, but instead it will be preparing for a trip up north to face the Suns.

The new Round 1 fixture will see Melbourne take to Metricon Stadium at 3.10pm AEDT on Saturday, January 30, with the girls preparing for their first game since last year’s finals victory over the Giants.

They will then return to Casey Fields in Round 2 for a clash with Richmond.

The Dees will host the Tigers in a twilight affair on Saturday, February 6, with the game set to kick off at 5.10pm AEDT.

After Gold Coast and Richmond both joined the league as expansion sides in 2020, the opening rounds will mark the first time Melbourne goes up against the two teams.

Further details around the fixture for the remainder of the home and away season are yet to be confirmed.
