Melbourne will host Fremantle in the opening round next season, after the AFL released the first week of the 2021 fixture on Sunday morning.

The clash against the Dockers will take place at the MCG, on Saturday, March 20 at 1:45pm (AEDT).

The AFL remains hopeful that crowds will be able to attend matches from Round 1, although what exactly that looks like will be determined by the situation of the coronavirus pandemic next year.

It will be the first time Melbourne has played at the MCG since its Round 5 match against Richmond earlier this year, before leaving Victoria for the remainder of the season due to the spread of COVID-19.

It is expected that the AFL will release further details of the 2021 premiership fixture in the coming days.
