MELBOURNE has brought in some big names this off-season.

From a targeted recruit in Ben Brown to highly regarded coach Adem Yze, the Demons have ticked plenty of boxes, both on and off the field.

And following last season, where they failed to achieve their goal of playing finals, changes of such nature were crucial.

“I said last year that the foundations had been laid,” coach Simon Goodwin said at the club’s annual Member Forum.

“I stand by that and think we’re even better positioned for the next 12 months.

“Firstly, it’s been about resetting our football department and resetting some opportunities. From a coaching perspective, we’ve made some changes that are great.

“Adem Yze will be fantastic; Mark Williams, Head of Development, will be unbelievable; Greg Stafford (who has taken on a full-time role) is a proven coach in a ruck division.”

Melbourne’s recent additions are set to bring a unique and fresh perspective to the group, as they set their sights on not only playing finals in 2021, but playing some significant ones.

And with pre-season now officially underway, the message from the coach is crystal clear.

“The scene has been set,” Goodwin said.

“We’ve had a good off-season, but now it’s about action.

“The players are sick of not winning. They want success. We all want success.

“Now, it is time that we make the specific steps required.

“It will come with plenty of hard work, consistency in how we go about our business, and a relentless and ruthless attitude.

“It’s time to begin the work, enjoy the grind and be back ready to go in Round 1.”
