TWO MORE Demons have been locked in for the 2021 season, with Marty Hore and Charlie Spargo receiving contract extensions on Thursday.
The pair join a long list of players to have recently re-signed, following on from Michael Hibberd and Nathan Jones who agreed to one-year deals earlier in the week.
Hore’s extension is also for one season, while Spargo has earned a two-year contract, keeping him at the club until at least the end of 2022.
“It’s really exciting to be able to keep both Marty and Charlie on our list,” GM of Football Josh Mahoney told Melbourne Media.
“They are two developing players who have shown a lot of positive signs in the early stages of their careers.
“Marty had a difficult year with some unique injuries – he worked incredibly hard to get back and play the final two scratch matches of the year and performed very strongly.
“Marty arrived as a mature recruit, but is still just two seasons into his career, so we see a bright future for him across half-back.
“Charlie plays a tough role as a small forward. He showed good progression through the year and we expect him to continue to improve with time.”
Spargo has played 34 games across his first three seasons at AFL level, since being selected with pick No.29 in the 2017 National Draft.
The 20-year-old’s role often goes unnoticed, but he’s a high-pressure player and had a career-best night against Collingwood with three goals in Round 12.
At the other end of the field, Hore burst onto the scene in his debut season with 14 games in 2019.
Recruited from Collingwood’s VFL side with pick No.56 in the 2018 National Draft, the 24-year-old is a strong intercept marker who puts his body on the line for the team.
While quad and toe injuries kept Hore on the sidelines for most of the year, he was best afield in the club’s final practice match of the season and will be hoping to get a clear run at it in 2021.
