AFTER 10 years, Harley Bennell has announced his retirement from the AFL.

The 27-year-old shared the news on Monday morning, bringing an 88-game career with Gold Coast, Fremantle and Melbourne to an end.

Bennell, who joined the Demons as a rookie during the AFL’s Supplemental Selection Period earlier this year, played five matches for the red and blue.

He debuted for Melbourne in Round 2 against Carlton, in what was his first game in 1,021 days.

Ongoing injury concerns saw the No.2 draft pick managed throughout the season, while his last senior game was in Round 10.

Originally from Peel Thunder, Bennell was drafted to the SUNS in the 2010 AFL Draft and joined Fremantle at the end of 2015.

He was released from his playing contract with the Dockers in July last year, before making the decision to move to Melbourne in hope of continuing his career.

Bennell finishes with 98 goals to his name.
