DURING September, the Melbourne Football Club launched the Kinder Kick program in the City of Casey.

The four week program consists of a variety of activities, which aim to improve the motor skills of the children involved and introduce them to Aussie Rules football. Many of the children involved come from diverse backgrounds, and have not been exposed to AFL football prior to the program.

Each of the 15 Kinders were given a variety of lesson plans, delivered by Chisholm Tafe students once a week, as well as a sports pack with a range of sports equipment to keep, and a life size Max Gawn height chart. The children loved measuring themselves against Max, and were intrigued, asking “is he really is that tall?” and “is Max taller than a building?”

To celebrate the conclusion of Kinder Kick for the year, participating Kinders held a Footy Colours Day, where children proudly wore their footy jumpers and had a visit from Club mascots Chuck and Checker.

After a successful pilot year, Kinder Kick will continue in 2012. If you would like further information, please contact the Club’s Schools Coordinator, Renee Dobson - renee.dobson@melbournefc.com.au.
