Summary
Melbourne has tasted all the emotions that sport has to offer so far this season. The Demons started their season with a draw against Sydney Swans, before being run over by Hawthorn in round two. A terrible third term - after Melbourne led by 19 points at half-time - resulted in a 45-point loss. The Dees opened their account with an 11-point win over Brisbane Lions at the MCG in round three, but it was far from convincing. The Dees trailed by 25 points at quarter-time, before upping the ante to gain the four points. In round four, the Demons played Gold Coast Suns for the first time, smashing the new team by 90 points. Although it was a scrappy match, the Dees turned it on with eight goals to one in the final term. Melbourne entered the bye with two wins, one draw and a loss - a realistic return after four rounds. Melbourne’s opponent West Coast started the season with two impressive wins, before dropping its past two matches. The Eagles also had the bye in round five.
Players to watch
Melbourne: Brent Moloney
It’s not unreasonable to suggest the man affectionately known as Beamer could have nine Brownlow Medal votes after three outstanding performances in rounds one, three and four. His best-on-ground effort against Gold Coast Suns, when he claimed 32 disposals on the back of a much-publicised week, was the perfect response.
West Coast Eagles: Matt Priddis
Priddis has continued on from his fine 2010 season, when he finished second in the club best and fairest award. In round four, he shone against Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium, laying 14 tackles and winning 26 disposals. Integral to West Coast’s midfield set-up, he has claimed 110 disposals this season - the most for the Eagles.
Match-up to watch
Mark Jamar v Dean Cox
The ruck clash should be a beauty, as the reigning All-Australian (Jamar) goes up against the four-timer (Cox). Both have been in fine form this season, with both players crucial to their respective sides. Cox has had the most hit outs in the league with 137 and Jamar is third with 125.

Memorable match
Round 22, 2000: Melbourne 26.14 (170) d West Coast Eagles 15.10 (100), Patersons Stadium
Melbourne produced a 70-point win, highlighted by five goals to Adem Yze, four to Cameron Bruce and three to Jeff Farmer. Despite being 10 points down early in the game, the Demons booted 10 unanswered goals, which saw the Eagles bow out of the finals race for the first time since 1989. Melbourne, however, had finished third on the ladder in its best home-and-away finish since 1964 and was set for September action.

What Colin Sylvia says …
“It’s going to be a really big challenge for us. We’re really starting to get better traveling on the road, so it’s good to have that winning culture, and then we can become a better team on the road. We’ll go over there and hopefully carry on from the last quarter against Gold Coast and get a win.”

Key Melbourne question
Can Melbourne end a seven-year hoodoo at Patersons Stadium and win its first match against West Coast at the venue since 2002?
