COACH Mark Neeld says the players and staff at the club will deal with the loss of club great Jim Stynes in their own way.

Speaking at AAMI Park on Wednesday, the day after Stynes’ moving funeral at St Paul’s Cathedral and Federation Square, Neeld said everyone would grieve differently over the former president and player.

“It’ll be a tough time for the club, but being a player and a coach at the moment, we have a clearly defined role at the footy club,” he said.

“For the players - that’s to perform. And that could well be a good outlet for them. There are people across the road [at the MCG] in the admin section, who have worked - some of them on a daily basis - with Jim for years. They don’t have that outlet.

“That’s probably going to be difficult for those guys to deal with, but it may just be something that the players need to get out and have an outlet.”

With three days until Melbourne hosts the Brisbane Lions at the MCG, Neeld confirmed Jack Grimes would lead the Demons with fellow co-captain Jack Trengove.

“He played the first three quarters out at Casey the other evening, and he was withdrawn from the game at three quarter-time and his shoulder is fine,” he said.

“As long as he gets through that main training session and Troy Davis doesn’t run into him again, he’ll play.”

And forward Jack Watts is also right in contention, following an impressive 26 disposals and two goal display for Casey against Williamstown in the VFL last Saturday night.

“I thought he played OK in the VFL, so he’s certainly given himself a chance to be selected,” he said.

Neeld said Liam Jurrah was still a month away from playing.
