VFL

Casey Scorpions 18.12 (120) d Geelong 16.11 (107)

Dom Barry - Dom played on the wing, he held his position really well and subsequently was used as an option for our defenders coming out of defence. Dom again backed himself to take the opposition on with his speed and had 15 possessions for the game.

Sam Blease - Sam had 7 disposals, 2 tackles and kicked 2 points in the first half, he did not return to the field after half time due to a knock he sustained late in the 2nd quarter.

Mitch Clisby - Mitch returned to the side after a few weeks break, his first three quarters were very good, he linked up as the running half back and was instrumental in helping set up the team's 11 goal 3rd quarter, finishing with 19 disposals for the game.

Tom Couch - Tom generated the most disposals for Casey with 30 for the game and worked very hard to win his share of contested footy, he also laid 7 strong tackles.

Troy Davis - Troy was sound in defence with 11 disposals and 6 spoils, he was rarely beaten in the 1v1 contest and is playing really consistent football.

Jack Fitzpatrick - Jack played a key role in the side's win, kicking an excellent goal from the boundary to help seal the game. He finished with 5 goals straight for the game and clearly made the most of his opportunities, he also supported Jake as the 2nd ruck and had 19 hit outs.

Jesse Hogan - Jesse's workrate was outstanding, his ability to cover the ground and get off his opponent is really promising. Jesse proved a handful for the Geelong defenders kicking 5.1 and taking 7 marks for the game. Most pleasing was his willingness to chase and tackle and apply genuine pressure on the opposition.

Dean Kent - Dean did not win a heap of the ball (12 disposals) however his involvements invariably led to a score as he was effective by both hand and foot and ran hard with ball in hand. Dean continues to work on improving the defensive side of his game.

Joel MacDonald - Joel was really solid in defence, he had the right balance of defending hard when required and also getting into space when we had the ball. 20 disposals and 7 marks from half back was another good game from Joel.

Cameron Pedersen - Cam played as a key defender for the entire game, he played a similar game to the week prior, 23 touches, 10 marks, 12 spoils and kicked a terrific goal from 60m out in the 3rd quarter.  Overall, his impact was very good.

David Rodan - David was busy all day and his hardness at the ball and ability to get out of congestion was very good, he also presented to the drop of the ball both in defence and in our forward line. 26 touches, 11 hard ball gets and 4 inside 50's was reward for effort.

Jake Spencer - Jake worked extremely hard for the entire game, he gave a good contest around the ground and also followed up his work with 5 tackles. His 34 hit outs provided our midfielders with first use on numerous occasions.

Rory Taggert - A significant improvement from Rory, he ran hard to get into space and also applied good pressure on the opposition with 3 chases and 4 tackles. Rory finished with 17 disposals, 4 marks and kicked 1.1 which was a good contribution.

Josh Tynan - Josh played mostly on the wing and whilst he did not win much of the ball (6 disposals), he certainly improved his defensive efforts and had a team high 8 tackles.

Development

Nathan Stark - Nathan played in the midfield and won plenty of the ball, he is a really combative player and is not afraid to put his body on the line. He needs to improve his match conditioning as he has had an injury interrupted season thus far.

Maia Westrupp - Maia certainly improved his movement which gave him more opportunities to compete, whilst he had minimal impact on the game, the experience is invaluable. He also received his first significant body hit and worked through this with little fuss.
