SCANS have confirmed that Melbourne forward Ainslie Kemp damaged both the anterior cruciate ligament and medial ligament in her left knee on Friday night.

The 22-year-old, who had previously ruptured the ACL in her right knee on two occasions, went down with the injury in the dying stages of her side’s 20-point win over the Western Bulldogs.

“It’s shattering news for Kempy, who is a highly valued member of our team,” AFLW Football Manager Daniel McPherson told Melbourne Media.

“Her knee appeared to just give way as she went to change direction in the last 30 seconds of the game, and scans have unfortunately confirmed that Kempy has once again suffered an ACL injury.

“We’ll take a bit of time to make a call on the best recovery process going forward, but Kempy will obviously have the full support of the club throughout her recovery.”

Kemp has had a luckless run to date, playing just 10 games in the first four years of the AFLW competition.
