MELBOURNE forward Kade Chandler will face an extended stint on the sidelines after suffering a wrist injury during the week.

The 20-year-old, who debuted in Round 22 last season, fractured his wrist at training on Monday after landing awkwardly in a contest drill.

Chandler went straight in for surgery on Monday evening and has already begun his recovery.

While he is expected to be away from the main group for the next six to eight weeks, Chandler will be able to start running within the coming days.

The Demons will head to Maroochydore for their pre-season camp on Tuesday, with Chandler set to use this time to continue conditioning the rest of his body.
