MAX GAWN and Christian Petracca were considered among the best players on the field on Saturday night, polling votes in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award.

Despite the 19-point loss to St Kilda, the Demon duo were recognised for their efforts, with Gawn receiving five votes after having 40 hit-outs and 18 disposals.

This effort sees Gawn climb to No.11 on the season leaderboard (58 votes), as he continues to be one of the best performers in the competition.

The Dees’ ruckman went head-to-head with Rowan Marshall in an intriguing battle that saw the Saint also poll two votes from the coaches.

Up forward, Petracca booted an equal-season-high three goals from his 20 touches, earning one vote in one of his best individual performances of 2019.

St Kilda’s stand-in captain Seb Ross earned maximum votes, while the coaches were unanimous in declaring Jade Gresham second best afield.
