MELBOURNE AFLW Senior Coach Tom Wilson says his side will take valuable lessons from Saturday night’s loss to North Melbourne.

The Demons made a promising start, but were unable to capitalise on their opportunities after quarter time, with the Kangaroos’ pressure and defensive structure proving difficult to break down.

“I felt as though when we had our opportunities and field position, we didn’t maximise our chances,” Wilson said.

“Probably our ball use, I thought the way that we set the field up at times as well, we were probably a little bit too disconnected for the way that we want our game to look.

“I just thought we were a little bit safe with ball in hand as well. I felt at times we could have taken more opportunities.”

Wilson credited North Melbourne’s quality, and said the Demons would use the loss as motivation to improve.

“We welcome any challenge that comes each week,” Wilson said.

“The lessons we learnt tonight are good lessons to learn.

“I’ve just said to the playing group that we’ve got to take the feedback on board and get to work during the week.

“Regardless of outcome, we want to come in and make sure we get better.”

Wilson also lauded Kate Hore’s effort in her 100th AFLW game, describing the milestone Demon as an “ultimate competitor”.

“The footy world gets to see Kate Hore the player,” Wilson said.

“We’re in the privileged position that we get to see the person and the leader.

“Even when the game was just about gone, she’s chasing, makes a rundown tackle and wins the ball back for us.

“If you saw one highlight of Kate to sum her up as the ultimate competitor, you probably got it.”
